MSM, NGOs AND PARANOIA
In an essay exclusive to PJM NELSON ASCHER looks at the strange symbiotic relationship between the Mainstream Media and Non-Governmental Organziations and what it means to our lives.-ed. By NELSON ASCHER ——— Comments (11)RKV :AndyJ :NGO's are never identified by name. The names they have chosen are generic and bland but never revealed. "Activists", "Experts" "environmentalists", etc are all applied and given the cloak of authority by the citation. Facts are incomplete making it hard for any true authoriy to refute the half-lies. Only the light of truth and revelation of facts will cleanse the corruption. David Thomson :“Nobody trusts the government. The politicians are corrupt. The government is always lying to the people.” This is only half accurate in the United States. The leftist establishment believes this to be entirely true only when Republicans are in power. Democrats are judged to be benevolent and intellectually brilliant. It is very fair to describe the MSM and its left wing allies as tacit partners of the Democratic Party. Thankfully, their monopoly is severely threatened. Pajamas Central and other alternative media outlets are providing them with serious competition. nelson ascher :David. Perhaps. But ask Joe Liebermann whether he agrees. The Democratic Party can count on the MSM only when it promotes their agenda. I subscribe to the point of view that America's other party is not the Democratic Party anymore, but rather something else, with the MSM close to its center. The US is still a two-party country but, while the one represents the interests of a nation-state, the other, of which the Dems are only (and only sometimes) a part, seems to work for some other kind of project, maybe transnational eltism, but definitely not for the survival of a normal nation-state as we grew used to know it. I'll develop the subject in further articles. Richard North :Good piece. From a UK perspective though, it is fair to say that the politicians have contributed to their own demise by handing over so much power respectively to the European Union and their own officials. The "distrust", therefore, also arises from a widespread - and correct - perception that domestic politicians are no longer in control and do not have the power to change things of concern. They have, in effect, assumed the mantle of responsibility without power. Tom Grey - Liberty Dad :Amnesty & Human Rights Watch, especially, are guilty over Darfur. They are consumed by their views: anti-Bush, anti-Capitalism (pro-tax on the rich, anti-tax cuts), anti-Christian (pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage), anti-American 'imperialism'. Right now, they support the Dems because they oppose all of Bush's policies (pro-democracy in Iraq, pro- tax cuts, pro-life). They are elitist, and claim "moral superiority", by having an unspoken Unreal Perfection against which they measure all real options. And while nothing real is good enough, as long as the intention is the same, it's only slightly criticized. Richard North :Bill Wyatt :However they may have insinuated themselves into public policy decision-making, NGO credibility has been purchased and sustained with large amounts of public money over the past several decades, making them political players from the start (however well disguised). For those of us opposed to their agenda, attacking their credibility, political neutrality and conflicts of interest is all well and good. But attacking, and ending, their public funding is essential. Transparency in government contracting is a start, but only a start. FK :Nelson's essay has touched a nerve with Richard and Helen over at the EU Referendum blog ... http://tinyurl.com/qruqa Jez Booker :Soren Kierkegaard identified much the same prob with the MSM and he was writing back in the C19. In particular he identified the anonymity of the Press as a dangerous factor - that, although there would be a byline with the journalist's name, the reader didn't know, or more usually care, who that writer is and what his motivation for writing (other than money) was. A politician is responsible to his voters - no vote = no job. A journo doesn't care as long as the Ed. is happy. And the Ed. is happy if he has sales. And he gets sales through gossip, slander and lies. Pansy :Nelson Comments have been archived for this page. |

Failed NGOs never die - even though they should. The duplicity, double standards and yes, even corruption will not kill them. It will take government prosecution to do what needs to be done. The next time the IRC becomes party to a fraud (as in the recent "Israeli rocket attack on an ambulance" they should be prosecuted as a co-conspirator with Hezbollah terrorists. That would stop that nonsense in a heartbeat. Yes, there would be wailing and knashing of teeth - but it would be well deserved.
