The Sanity Squad: A Religion of the Perpetually Paranoid![]() “It seems that what we are dealing with is a religion of the perpetually paranoid rather than a religion of peace.” This week our 4 mental health professionals, Neo-neocon, Dr. Sanity, Shrinkwrapped, and Siggy, analyze the irrational Islamic reaction to the speech of Pope Benedict about the importance of reason in religion. The Sanity Squad on Pope Benedict’s speech and Islamic Reaction
“It’s not just on the level of the Arab street. There is a very interesting intellectual connection. There’s a book in Turkey called Attack on the Pope. A best-seller in Turkey, it predicts that the Pope will be assassinated during his forthcoming visit to Turkey. At the same time, a movie opened at the Toronto Film Festival and was praised for showing the assassination of a sitting United States President. It is not a coincidence that these two things exist and are celebrated in both the intellectual halls of the Left and the intellectual halls of Islam.” ——— Comments (3)Kondrad MOl :Paul Freedman :Dear gentle left-wing Christians: this is not about the Kantian imperative: the tens and tens of tens of millions of Islamic angry men are not saying that this or that Jewish or Christian conduct is objectively bad or hurtful--they are rather saying that Jews or Christians in this or that situation (or by being breathing unbelievers) are themselves intrinsically evil and to fight this evil NO act is objectively bad or hurtful for true members of the Islamic community. There is no Kantian categorical behavior imposed on Islamic believers and infidels alike. sigmund, carl and alfred :"The Jews are the Jews.... They do not have any moderates or any advocates of peace. They are all liars. They must be butchered and must be killed.... The Jews are like a spring - as long as you step on it with your foot it doesn't move. But if you lift your foot from the spring, it hurts you and punishes you.... It is forbidden to have mercy in your hearts for the Jews in any place and in any land, make war on them anywhere that you find yourself. Any place that you meet them, kill them." This call for a genocidal war against the Jews was made in 2000 by Dr. Ahmed Abu Halabiyah, rector of advanced studies at the Islamic University of Gaza on PA TV, the official channel of the Palestinian Authority. Halabiyah has given scores of similar sermons. Throughout the region, similar sermons and lessons are taught, to cheering, frenzied throngs. Will we not hold these Eichmanns to account? Or do we need for the slaughter of Jews to take place first? Caring about trees, the rainforest, or puppies or not eating meat doesn't say a thing about your morality or ethics if you don't stand up against the hate- the real hate, the kind that kills. The majority of Muslims are not insane, hate filled lunatics. That said, millions are. Try a bit of reality, Mr Freedman. You'll that to be a refreshing respite from the burden of having to convince yourself and others of irrational and convoluted justifications of the profound dysfunction that produces vicious and visceral hate. After listening to your discussion.
I feel like to cry Pathetic!
- Sad, I feel that I can not hear such a depth of discussion as yours on NPR or any other media.
Without the internet I am the subject to the apologists in the Big Media who contniously bash the long gone ghost of militant Christianity repeating Black Lies or Stalin agitkas or ranting on Right wing talk shows developing new expletives like islamonazosomething.
I wish your kind of analysis was available to the masses.
