Sanity Squad: On Fear

What do you see in this picture?

An article in this month’s Psychology Today purports to describe what goes into the making of liberals and conservatives, and the motivations behind post-9/11 change. Short version of the answer: conservatives are fearful, liberals rational. The Sanity Squad has plenty to say about that, and the difference between headlights and lamps, epiphanies, ambiguity, tipping points, and political paranoia.

The Sanity Squad - On Fear

The Sanity Squad is composed of 4 mental health professionals, Neo-neocon, Dr. Sanity, Shrinkwrapped, and Siggy.

A Production of Pajamas Media, the Best of the Blogs, and POLITICSCENTRAL.

Why is it that shrinks are the craziest people I meet?

Great show, guys; one of your best yet. I'd like to see more of this questioning the emotional quasi-religious basis of the Leftist worldview.

So let us compare a couple of liberal and conservative political slogans:

Bill Clinton is an adulterer
George Bush is Hitler

Which one panders to fear?

I have a term for these psychologist that they probably know: PROJECTION

Sigmund Freud used that one a lot

it's true! Conservatives have been shitting themselves since time began. I think a lot of them were secretly releived after 9/11, that they had something worthwhile to shit themselves about, after those uncomfortable post soviet years when it seemed like they would have to live in peace.

Thoughtful insight, Wade.

Articulate, too.

Always a safe assumption, when these pieces are written by liberals that 'conservative' represents them. Projection plain and simple.

Is it rational not to be afraid that suicidal, homicidal religious fanatics will kill you?

As always, your group discussion and interaction was quite fascinating and illuminating. I particulary appreciated the point being made about the difference between an epiphany and a tipping point.

Greg Fisher :

It seems to me that to see bad guys when they really exist is rational. To not see bad guy when they really exist is not rational. Reality is measuring stick against which rationality should be judged and not visa versa.
