The Glenn and Helen Show: Conn Iggulden on Boys and DangerAre we turning into a nation of wimps? Do boys need to be boys? Is there something parents and schools should be doing differently? We talk with British author Conn Iggulden, whose new book, The Dangerous Book for Boys, takes an old-fashioned positive look at boyhood, bravery, and the nature of risk, about those subjects and others — including the effect of modern parenting and education on military recruitment and the future of Western civilization. Is being optimistic old-fashioned? Plus, revelations about Helen’s misspent youth! Music is “Status No” and “IWDWIST” by Todd Steed and the Suns of Phere. This podcast sponsored by Volvo Motors USA. ——— Comments (5)Sue :Kadnine :I want my lawn darts back. Is there a black market for used equipment? An underground playing league perhaps? Hostility :"We have feminized our boys and now are paying the price." Is this what has social conservatives so up-in-arms? Canadian Infidel :Having recently retired after more than 20 years in the military I can say without a doubt that todays young men are wussies compared to the guys I went through basic training with in the early 80's. We went through a prototype training program that went back to the 50's and sixties style of training(think "Full Metal Jacket" type of training). We started with 186 guys and graduated with a mere 39, the course was never run again, it was to hard for most, even back then. Today it's even worse, mama's boys as we say, their feeling are hurt, they cry when yelled at or when they fail at something. Man,... are we in trouble, cause the enemy is starting their training program of brainwashing their kids to hate and want to kill us before they can even walk. Unless we change and teach our troops to be the killers they need to be our way of life and our culture will soon be nothing more then a part of Islamic history. jaafar :I have no military experience or knowledge, but will simply note as a fact that I have not read one word on the Internet (or anywhere) which claims that today's recruits are stronger & tougher than yesterday's. Finally, someone is writing about this serious problem that has plagued America since the "women's movement" and the bra burners took it over!! We have feminized our boys and now are paying the price.
