The Glenn and Helen Show: Mitt Romney Talks Super Tuesday

With the Super Tuesday primaries just a couple of days away, we caught up to Mitt Romney and asked him about gun control — he says he’ll veto any gun control bills that cross his desk as President — about the economy, and about John McCain. Plus, whether Romney is mean enough for politics. Can he pull off a Turnaround?

Chris Butler :

Who are we supposed to believe, Mitt Romney (12/07) or Mitt Romney (2/08)?

Michael F :

Yes, The G&H Show is worth our time. Thanks for the to-the-point questions of Mr. Romney. You two do work well together.

I guess our choice is between someone with shiny, new conservative credentials and someone who has left his conservative credentials out in the rain. With some reluctance, I will vote for the "shiny new" guy on Tuesday

One habit I wish Romney would pick up is the pithy one-word answer style of Fred. It seems Romney is trying to close the sale on nearly every answer he offers.

The state of the race only makes me miss Fred all the more.

Mitt Romney is a brilliant business man with a sound moral character. He is the best candidate I have ever seen run for president since Regan and I have been waiting for a long time. Considering the current scope of America’s economic problems do we really think it’s a good idea to destroy the one person that has the proven abilities to restore the economy? I have seen Mitt in action for many years and he is a proven problem solver with vision. Yes the liberal news papers in the Boston market will do anything to distort his image but us tax payers of Massachusetts know the REAL truth about Mitt.

I understand that Mitt has evolved with his position on abortion. It’s truly a testament to the man’s moral character and ability to think to say he may have been wrong about a certain position. Unlike our current president’s arrogant, obstinate character Mitt has proven he is willing to listen and understand both sides of many issues. How many times have we all improved our understanding by listing to other peoples opinions? We are all a work in progress and once we close our minds to others we become part of the problem. Mitt’s ability to change and understand all sides of every issue is one of his greatest assets. If Mitt should be elected President he will inspire an American renaissance in technology and industry that has never been seen in America.

I’ve never seen a more concerted effort to destroy a man’s character than what the media and the so called Republican insiders are doing to Mitt now. It’s almost as though there’s an unspoken conspiracy to destroy this man. Do the American people have a death wish? I will not let the left wing media make my decision on who is the best person to vote for.

So what will be the plan after Mitt packs his bags and calls it a day who will fill the void another George Bush clone? Will we elect another obstinate president with no real vision of the problems that face our countries future? No the Republicans and the American people will never stand a chance with McCain. McCain is a proven liberal disaster with nothing on his resume but so called public service.

Yes it’s true that Mitt isn’t an insider but the current status quo Washington insiders are the blame for America’s economic disaster. In the last decade or so we have had two Gulf wars and two treasury raids called national stimulus policies of $150 billon each. Do we really want more of the same misguided policies or do we want to change? I can only imagine what McCain’s approach to repairing the economy would be once he understands he can’t drop a bomb on it. Americans must understand that a strong national defense is built upon a strong national economy. Somebody has to pay for the military. How much money can we keep taking from the treasury until we are bankrupt? If we had a national energy policy we wouldn’t have to use our military to secure our oil supply. So what’s it going to be for the future more of the same misguided policies or do we make a choice for change? Yes a 100 year war sounds about right the way this country is going now.

Mitt is the real deal that can change America.
Go Mitt!

Fiftycal :

So this week romney is "for" gun rights? Here is what he had to say on 12/16/2007 on Meet the Press.

MR. RUSSERT: You're still for the Brady Bill?

GOV. ROMNEY: I supported the assault weapon ban. I...

MR. RUSSERT: You're for it?

GOV. ROMNEY: I assigned--and I--let me, let me describe it.

MR. RUSSERT: But you're still for it.

GOV. ROMNEY: Let's describe what it is. I signed--I would have supported the original assault weapon ban. I signed an assault weapon ban in Massachusetts governor because it provided for a relaxation of licensing requirements for gun owners in Massachusetts, which was a big plus. And so both the pro-gun and the anti-gun lobby came together with a bill, and I signed that. And if there is determined to be, from time to time, a weapon of such lethality that it poses a grave risk to our law enforcement personnel, that's something I would consider signing. There's nothing of that nature that's being proposed today in Washington. But, but I would, I would look at weapons that pose extraordinary lethality...

MR. RUSSERT: So the assault ban that expired here because Congress didn't act on it, you would support?

GOV. ROMNEY: Just as the president said, he would have, he would have signed that bill if it came to his desk, and so would have I. And, and, and yet I also was pleased to have the support of the NRA when I ran for governor. I sought it, I seek it now. I'd love to have their support. I believe in the right of Americans to bear arms...

I guess what romney says depends on which audience he is trying to pander to at the moment.

Dan :

Here’s the ugly truth about McCain’s record:
-IMMIGRATION: he wrote the bill granting amnesty to illegal immigrants (co-sponsored by Ted Kennedy)
-SOCIAL SECURITY: he voted to give your social security money to illegal immigrants
-TAXES: he voted against the Bush tax cuts multiple times (he has since flip-flopped and has campaigned as a lifelong tax-cutter)
-RHETORIC: he routinely engages in Democratic class warfare against big companies in America, particularly the “evil” drug companies who research cures to debilitating diseases for a profit
-ECONOMY: as recently as December 2007 he admitted “he does not know the economy very well” and needed to get better at it
-1ST AMENDMENT: he wrote the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that was declared to be an unconstitutional infringement of the 1st Amendment (co-sponsored by ultra-liberal Democrat Russ Feingold)
-2ND AMENDMENT: he was called the “worst 2nd amendment candidate” by the president of the NRA
-EQUAL PROTECTION: lifelong supporter of affirmative action
-ENERGY TAX: wrote a bill (co-sponsored by his buddy Lieberman) imposing a massive tax on energy which, according to the Department of Energy, would drastically raise the price of gasoline and put 300,000 Americans out of work
-GLOBAL WARMING: supports radical global warming legislation which involved him voting with every Democrat; think only America is responsible to take action, not other superpowers
-JUDGES: he joined forces with Democrats (Gang of 14) to block the Senate Republican’s attempt to confirm conservative, strict constructionist judges; also said Alito was too conservative for his liking
-WAR ON TERROR: fought with Hillary Clinton to demand that terrorists be given a full American trial
-GAY MARRIAGE: he joined liberals to fight against a federal marriage amendment supporting the institution of traditional marriage
-CHRISTIANS: campaigning in 2000, he famously described Christian leaders as “agents of intolerance”
-PRO-LIFE: he filed an amicus brief against pro-life advocates in Wisconsin
-BI-PARTISANSHIP: he met with leading Democrats in 2004 to discuss the possibility of being John Kerry’s Vice-President; publicly considered leaving the Republican Party in 2001 after he lost the primary
-INTELLECT: finished 894 out of 899 in his class in the Naval Academy.
-PROFESSIONAL ETHICS: ringleader of the infamous Keating 5 ethical scandal which cost US tax payers $160 billion (Google it)
-PERSONAL ETHICS: McCain cheated on his first wife after she had a severe accident that left her partially disabled. He then divorced her and married his multi-millionaire mistress, whose daddy bought McCain a spot in the Congress
